Stewardship
Stewardship of the Community is essential toward fostering spiritual growth Our leadership consists of a Council of Stewards whose job is to uphold the character, values and mission of Bluestem Community. Up to eleven stewards with 2-year terms lead the Council by actively listening to, responding to and supporting members, and carrying out the duties of the nonprofit, including fiduciary responsibilities and other sustaining decision-making. Meetings occur every month. A Nominating Committee is responsible for assisting members interested in leadership positions. Stewards must be 18 years or older and demonstrate a commitment to Bluestem Community goals and values.
Stewardship of the Land is a prime objective for Bluestem Community. This requires the ongoing financial support of members and the broader community in order to create a nature preserve that members, friends, and visitors can return to for spiritual reflection, recreation and regeneration. The conservation of water quality, native habitat, restored grasslands and woodlands while providing burial space is part of our spiritual mission. This sustainable mission can only succeed if our members take an active stewardship role.
Service at Bluestem Community is rooted in our relationships with one another and the earth. At Bluestem, each of us has a responsibility to serve as a steward of the community, in welcoming newcomers, sharing experiences and resources, and creating a nourishing spiritual home for all. Bluestem’s outward service focuses on connecting people with the earth’s precious natural resources through programming focused on deeper spiritual transformation, creating socially and environmentally just systems and experiences, exploring cultural traditions, environmental education, and natural burial.
Sacred space is also provided for individual and family conversations about end-of-life care and decision making. Bluestem anticipates additional service opportunities and affiliations with compatible programs such as hospice programs, caregiving support groups, and end of life planning. Volunteer opportunities abound, including:
